I think Elie was able to watch his father take a blow from the Gypsy because he was angry at his father. When Elie was walking towards the cremetory in the beginning his father didn't do anything he wept and was weak. Elie was upset his father didn't do anything to help or save the people.
I think Elie was able to watch his father be hit by the Gypsy because Elie knew that he could not do anything to stop the gard even if he wanted to and he might have also felt that if he did something to stop the gaurd then, everyone else might have been it trouble for it too. I think Elie also felt that he could have been killed if he tryed to stop the gard.
I think that Elie could watch the gysy becuase he knows that if he stands forward both his father and him would both be doomed to something worse. I think that Elie has become more accostomed to these beatings and is starting to be able to take it better.
i think that Elie was able to watch his father get hit because he as dissapointed that his ather did not stand up for himself, and that he gave up on hope and everything. Elie also knew that if he did do anything to stop Gypsy then he would be risking his own life.
Ellie knows that there is no way that violence is going to help this problem. If he reacts his father and him will be punished even more for their actions towards the guards. Ellie is angry towards god and the way he is treating them and angry with the people around him who are screaming and crying for a savior but he thinks that god has abndond them when they need him the most. It seems that Ellie is starting to become more mature and become more responsible. He realizes what is really going on and he is trying to keep himself and his father emotionally together.
I think Elie was able to watch his father take a hit from the gypsy because he knew that there was nothing he could do about it and if he tried he would have gotten him and his father in worse trouble. Also Elie probably now realizes that what hes going through is for real and has to try and fight through it. He knew if he did something him or his father could have gotten killed. He realizes that he doesnt want to endanger himself or others.
